Research from "The Get It Right Initiative" (GIRI) indicates that the cost of construction errors in the UK represents 21% of the total project costs, amounting to 21 billion pounds annually in both direct and indirect expenses. In Sweden, the National Board of Housing, Building and Planning (Boverket) estimates in its report “Survey of Errors, Deficiencies, and Damages in the Construction Sector” that the cost of construction errors varies between 83-111 billion SEK annually. These costs are often caused by time pressure and lack of knowledge during the design phase.
The AI Bob project aims to automate the review process within the construction industry through AI technology. Its primary goal is to create a digital assistant that acts as a coach and reviewer for architects in Revit, leading to more sustainable design solutions and reducing the incidence of construction errors. Through this, AI Bob aims to reduce both the time and costs within construction projects while promoting a more sustainable and inclusive built environment.
The initial focus of the project is on developing a review template focused on accessibility in housing, which directly addresses current challenges in the construction industry and aligns with the emphasis on innovative solutions for sustainable development. This approach is expected to significantly reduce both construction errors and lead times and supports the architect in making smarter sustainability choices, resulting in direct cost savings and improving the quality of life for residents.
A key element of the project is the implementation and testing of AI Bob at White Arkitekter. Through this partnership, the project is not only expected to develop a stronger understanding of industry needs but also to establish a foundation for continuous improvement and innovation. The collaboration also provides a unique opportunity to collect valuable data and feedback, which is crucial for further developing and adapting AI technology.
